i have been around DA for about 6 years as of 2009.
but somewhere along the way i stopped coming here so much, not sure why.
today i thought about it again and logged in to see what was happening.
the site has been updated a lot, i see.
but unfortunately, apart from the improved framework of the community, DA seems to have stagnated pretty severely.
i spent about an hour browsing the site, and the main thing i noticed were the unavoidable heaps of shitty fan-art and un-original copies of copies of copies.
you can't go more than a couple of clicks without finding a gallery full of blatant tracings, copy-cat anime fan-art or other generic, banal, toss.
it seems to me that there are VERY FEW ARTISTS HERE, AND ALMOST NO GREAT ONES.
originality doesn't seem to be valued as much as it was in the old days.
i wont go on about it, i'll just say that there are better places for creative people.
deviant has always been about page-views, faves and praise. and fair enough.
but page-views, faves and praise don't have anything to do with quality,
especially not when the core of the community has become so un-original.
it becomes a self-perpetuating stagnation leading everyone down a spiral of ever decreasing originality.

(no offence if you're not one of the anime/chibi/emo/goth/furry/etc/etc drones, but if you're not, you're probably not here either, or if you are, you can probably deal with feedback that isn't positive.)
